The students will learn that trades or exchanges happen in a game when they capture a piece and give up a piece to be captured. They will learn about different kinds of exchanges. An Even Exchange is when both pieces that are captured are worth the same in point value. The students will learn about a Winning Exchange (when they allow their less valuable piece to be captured in order to capture their opponent's more valuable piece) and a Losing Exchange (when they allow their more valuable...
The students will improve their chess knowledge by understanding the value of each piece and to know the difference between Winning and Losing Exchanges in a chess game.
Homework Offered
Students will receive chess puzzle homework sheets in a PDF format to be printed out. The chess puzzle homework sheets will be discussed in class to make sure all students understand what to do.0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
A learner is assessed by understanding the answers on each chess puzzle assignment and knowing how to checkmate to win their games. When a student practices chess at home, with others, or on-line, their skills will increase--this will reflect in their knowledge of the game.Grades Offered

We will be using the lichess.org website for students to play chess games on-line. The students will be copying the game link and pasting it in the Zoom Chat Box for other students to click on and access the game. Usernames and passwords to lichess.org will not be used for this class.
ChessKid.com is an additional resource that can help the student to improve their chess skills. This website provides Chess Puzzles, practice against chess bots, and informative videos which are made by Grand Masters.
