Private Voice and Singing Lessons for Beginner & Intermediate Students
Class experience
Welcome to my Outschool music studio! Are you a beginning singer who wants to learn what your voice can do? Are you looking to become a stronger singer so you can sing solos in choir or land a better part in your school show? Are you considering majoring in a voice-related field for college and aren't sure where to start? These are all things I can help you with! In our time together, we will develop a customized lesson plan to help you become a stronger singer while meeting your goals. For...
Beginner students will learn about breath control, resonance, and how to produce a consistent tone. We will also cover aspects of ear-training and pitch stability, musicianship, music theory, and artistry. More experienced students will also work on these topics at their level. In addition, depending on the student's goals, we may cover topics such as audition technique, repertoire selection, and singing harmonies.
I have been singing professionally for over 20 years and have been teaching voice for 15 of them. My background is classical and musical theater, but I "cross train" between genres so that I can remain flexible to my student's needs. My students range in age from 12 to adult. Some are brand new to singing, some work at a professional level, and most are somewhere between. I tailor lessons to meet their needs and goals, regardless of their starting place.
Homework Offered
Students will be expected to practice their exercises and song between lessons -- a minimum of 15 - 30 minutes most days is best.2 - 4 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Assessment is constant through the lesson.Grades Offered
Students should come to their lesson with a pencil and paper to take notes. Students will be required to buy music books which will be determined after the first meeting. Books that I typically use can be found on Amazon. I do endeavor to use the books for as long as I can before moving to something different. I will provide recordings to practice with or, where appropriate, help the student find backing tracks. Students will need a way to play these tracks during their lesson. The playback device should not be the same device that they are taking their lesson on. Music will be mp3s or streamed from YouTube, so a phone or tablet is fine.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
I help my students along their creative journey, no matter where they are on their path. I offer encouragement, guidance, and technique, but never judgment. My classes and private lessons get students involved -- you can’t learn music or art by...
