Class Experience
Students will learn how to read and follow a recipe, how to measure dry ingredients and how to use the stovetop to melt and blend ingredients. They will learn how to use food coloring to dye their food, how to decorate with sprinkles and other edible items and how to cut their trees. They will develop confidence in their cooking skills as they prepare this popular Holiday treat.
I am a Career and Technical Education teacher, Family and Consumer Sciences. I have taught foods classes, both cooking and baking, to students of all ages, from elementary school students to adults. I have taught in the classroom, at summer camps and online. Most importantly, I love cooking, especially baking, and especially at the Holidays. I have been baking since I was very young, with my mother and grandmother. I enjoy sharing my joy and experience with students.
Students are requested to taste their treat, clean up after themselves, and thank the adult who assisted them in the kitchen.
The recipe, which includes the ingredient listing, will be sent prior to class. In addition to the ingredients, students will need cooking spray, 9"x13" baking pan, measuring cups, green food coloring, saucepan, pot holders, mixing spoon.
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Parental/adult guidance is suggested as students will be using the stovetop and a knife.
