Welcome to a festive and educational class designed for children aged 7 to 12 years old! In this four-week adventure, young learners will embark on a journey to discover Christmas traditions from eight different countries, exploring the rich history and engaging in fun, hands-on projects that bring the holiday spirit to life. Christmas traditions vary widely across countries, each offering a unique and culturally rich celebration. For each country we explore, we will learn about the historical roots and the importance of Christmas traditions and create projects inspired by the holiday. At the end of the four weeks, students will have an understanding of the diverse ways people celebrate the holiday. Week 1 Day 1: United States **United States:** Lesson: Explore the history of various winter traditions in the U.S. Project: Create a collaborative winter-themed mural. Day 2: Mexico **Mexico:** Lesson: Learn about the significance of Posadas celebrations. Project: Make traditional Mexican paper crafts, like papel picado. Week 2 Day 1: Germany **Germany:** Lesson: Dive into the history of the Christmas tree tradition. Project: Craft personalized wooden ornaments. Day 2: South Africa **South Africa:** Lesson: Discover the local holiday traditions like Christmas in the sun. Project: Create handmade African-inspired holiday cards. Week 3 Day 1: Philippines **Philippines:** Lesson: Explore the unique Filipino Christmas customs, including Simbang Gabi. Project: Craft parol lanterns, a symbol of Filipino Christmas. Day 2: Australia **Australia:** Lesson: Learn about how Australians celebrate a warm-weather Christmas. Project: Create sand art depicting Christmas scenes. Week 4 Day 1: France **France:** Lesson: Explore the French Yule log tradition (Bûche de Noël). Project: Bake and decorate mini Yule logs. Day 2: Brazil **Brazil:** Lesson: Discover how Brazilians celebrate Christmas with a mix of traditions. Project: Make Brazilian-style Christmas decorations using vibrant colors. These lessons and projects provide a multicultural perspective, allowing participants to appreciate the diversity of holiday traditions around the world.
