Class Experience

Teenagers are likely to be exposed to conflict on a regular basis. They are likely to experience it in their own homes and at school and in many other situations. This is a concern because teenagers may not yet have had the chance to learn strategies of how to de-escalate and resolve conflict in healthy and productive ways.

Participants in this class will work as individuals and groups to discuss different scenarios involving conflict. They will then be asked to identify the conflict, the parties involved, the goals of each party, and what might help resolve the conflict. They will learn de-escalation techniques and strategies to assist in resolving conflict.

This 60-minute course will include lively discussions, vocabulary, a poll, a quiz, and different group scenario discussions to assist the learners in gaining a deeper understanding of how to navigate through potential conflicts that they may face.

Intro to Conflict Management for Teens is suggested prior to taking this course but is not required as long as the participant has some basic understanding of what conflict means.

Teaching Style

My teaching style is patient and energetic. I believe that it is important for each learner to find their voice and actively engage in their own learning process. This ensures growth and accountability. I will provide provoking questions and discussions to aid in this process. Learning should be a fun, exciting, and interactive process!

Learning Goals

The learning goals for this course are for the students to have a deeper understanding and knowledge of different types of conflict and how to begin to resolve issues as they arise. This includes de-escalation techniques and strategies. Students will end class with a basic tool set that includes problem-solving skills as they relate to conflict management and resolution in different social settings.
