Students attending this class will experience performing on their instrument in front of both familiar and new faces. Each student in this class will share a live performance of a piece that they have selected and prepared for the class. In addition, each learner will be able to hear and appreciate the performances of other students. Prior to the class meeting, information will be shared in the classroom regarding perforamcne ettiquette, including: - how to give a good performance - how to be a great audience member - what is "stage fright" and the best practices for avoiding or overcoming it After class, students will receive a customized program, featuring their Outschool user names and information about their respctive instruments and pieces they chose to play.
Learning Goals
Students will select a prepared piece to share in performance with their peer learners.
Students will practice the skills of being an attentive audience, including:
- active listening
- respectful but attentive silence
- how to provide supportive and encouraging feedback
Other Details
Supply List
Students should choose a song in advance to provide proper preparation. Learners should bring to class: - their instrument - their sheet music. Even if the tune is memorized, it's a good idea to have the sheet music as a backup. - lots of excitement and enthusiasm to meet new friends and hear them play!

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Sandra Girouard has been a music educator for over thirty years, teaching in private studio environments, school classrooms, camps, workshops, libraries, and (of course) online. Her overarching goal with all of her students is to develop skills for life-long music making and independent musicianship.
