This is a class for the student who loves to walk the beach and collect shells. I have been a life long collector of sea shells and will share my collection with students in the class. Students will learn the name of the shells, where and how to look for them, and facts about the creatures who called these shells home before we found them. Students are encouraged to bring some of their favorite shells to show in class. Decorative and practical uses for sea shell collections will also be discussed.
Learning Goals
Students will learn the names of common sea shells found in the continental United States, how to find sea shells, and facts about the creatures who called the shells home.

Teacher expertise and credentials
As a life long collector of sea shells I have done more than just pick up shells. I have several reference books where I look up the name so I can use more than the local "nickname" for the shell. I will share these books during class. I have visited maritime museums up and down the East Coast which include sea shell collections. They have helped me to learn more about what I am collecting on the beach.
