In this one-time class, learners will learn to make change with coins! This skill is a focus in early elementary grades. We will learn a strategy to help make change and solve math stories about money! I always begin class with good news, which gives our class an opportunity to get to know one another. We will then share things we know about money and practice skip counting to help us count coins. We will also use a number grid to helps visual our counting. We will then learn a strategy to help make change and solve math stories. Learners will have the opportunity to share their math work with each other! Learners will be encouraged to share thoughts throughout the lesson, as much as they are comfortable. I will guide everyone through each step of the lesson with visual aids and handouts. Prior knowledge of skip counting as well as addition and subtraction strategies (counting back and counting on) will support learners in this money lesson. These are skills we will practice together in class!
