Note: The handout is not required for class but we may have time for it! In the event, please have some crayons/markers/paints ready to get messy :) This patterning class is a blast! Ideally your preschooler/kindergartener has expressed some interest in patterns, such as spotting them in their everyday environment. We will become familiar with A-B, A-B-C, and A-B-B patterns, work on extending them, identifying their unit of repeat, and expressing them in a variety of ways. For example, an A-B-B pattern can be expressed as apple-banana-banana as much as clap-stomp-stomp! We will be working towards extending a growing pattern at the end of our lesson. This patterning practise will help us with important algebraic reasoning skills such as understanding relationships and following mathematical rules. Our ultimate goal for this class is understanding that patterns REPEAT and that anything that REPEATS is a pattern! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ TAGS: Cognition ▪️ Problem solving ▪️ Representation ▪️ Questioning, observing ▪️ Collecting and organizing information ▪️ Reflecting and reaching conclusions ▪️ Communicating findings ▪️ Reasoning logically ▪️ Classifying ▪️ Seriating ▪️ Counting ▪️ Determining quantity ▪️ Comparing quantities ▪️ Representing numbers ▪️ Determining ordinal number and position ▪️ Completing simple number operations Communication, Language, and Literacy ▪️ Verbal and non-verbal communication ▪️ Using English and home language ▪️ Conversing with peers and adults, listening to others ▪️ Using descriptive language to explain, explore and extend ▪️ Enjoying literacy, retelling stories ▪️ Phonological awareness ▪️ Letter recognition ▪️ Matching spoken with written words Social/Emotional ▪️ Making friends ▪️ Conflict resolution and social problem solving skills ▪️ Cooperation ▪️ Empathy ▪️ Perspective-taking ▪️ Identity formation ▪️ Self-esteem/self-efficacy ▪️ Recognizing and expressing emotions ▪️ Regulating attention, emotions, and behaviour ▪️ Positive attitudes towards learning

Hello families!!
My name is Ms. Mel and I teach preschool/kindergarten level math concepts to learners of all ages and abilities on Outschool!
As a certified Ontario p/j teacher with an undergraduate in Early Childhood Development, I'm constantly researching and reflecting on my practice, thinking of ways that I can encourage childrens' self-efficacy and resilience in math learning. I am always thinking: "How can I get this particular concept into this particular mind?" I have deep passion for early growth/development and mental health, and my main priority is ensuring that the students in my online classroom feel welcomed and part of our learning community, and are being equipped with all the necessary tools to be happy, motivated, and resourceful lifelong learners. I do my best to create lessons that are visually appealing and keep my students highly engaged with funny and interesting twists. We LOVE to have fun in my classes and that is our main mission, because we all know how easy it is to learn new things when we're enjoying the process!
Thank you for reading! I feel so lucky that I get to do what I love every day and be part of something that I'm proud of. I can't wait to be a part of your child's growth and success; see you in class!
