Class Experience

Have you ever seen a bird flying with a stick or leaves in it's mouth? Did you know that the bird is probably building it's nest? A bird nest is a home to a bird; it's a place they live, eat, lay eggs, and raise baby birds. A bird nest is a place where birds feel safe.

INTRO: Students will share their favorite type of bird.

CONTENT: In this class, we will look at different types of bird nests. The students will guess what kind of bird lives there. Then, they will plan, draw, and create their own nests. Before class, students should go outside and gather some things they think might be in a nest: twigs, grass, hay, leaves, mud, flower petals, and anything else they might think of. After looking at some different types of nests, they will use STEM skills to build their own. I will ask questions in class like: What makes your nest strong? What kind of bird lives there? How does it keep the eggs safe? They will think creatively to answer these questions.

Bachelor's Degree from Washington State University
Hi, friends! My name is Teacher Angela, and I love teaching early learning classes. My classes include topics of early literacy, STEAM, circle time, and full curriculum classes. I have been working with kids as long as I can remember. I have babysat, been a nanny, and helped look after my 6 younger siblings.

I have my Bachelor's degree in Human Development, with a certificate in Child Development and Care. I have worked with preschoolers since 2010. Some of my roles have included teaching preschool, and acting as a Program Supervisor and Director of a child care center. I helped develop curriculum for the classrooms and helped grow the preschool program as a whole. I have worked with many curriculums, and I have training in Zoo-Phonics and Handwriting Without Tears. I also taught ESL online for 2 years. I am currently finishing my master's degree in Elementary Education.

My teaching style is to encourage conversation, engagement, and fun in the classroom. I think it is important for kids to have opportunities to share and interact. I also think it is so important for kids to have fun learning! Learning shouldn't just be through worksheets and homework, it should involve motions and play! In my classes, we will have so much fun learning. We will go on adventures, sing songs, do lots of arts and crafts, complete experiments, and use lots of movement. Some of my favorite book characters are Pete the Cat and Little Blue Truck. I can't wait to meet you in the classroom! :)
