In this 9-week course learners will be taught what mindfulness is, why it works for our brains, and how to practice strategies including breathing techniques, grounding, gratitude, affirmations, and more.

What is Mindfulness?
Today we will learn what mindfulness is, why it works, and how to practice it.
 Week 2
Lesson 2
Breathing Strategies
Today we will learn how the body and brain are connected through breath.
 Week 3
Lesson 3
Guided Meditations
We will use guided meditations to activate our brains ability to visualize and focus on calming experiences.
 Week 4
Lesson 4
Grounding Practices
We'll practice using our senses today to ground ourselves.
 Week 5
Lesson 5
Gratitude
Today we will focus on the things we are thankful for in our lives as a way to cope with difficult emotions.

Affirmations
We will learn to speak positive words over ourselves.

Mindful Movement
We will practice going through some yoga-based movements to connect our brain and body today.

We will review everything we learned and discuss a plan for implementing mindfulness strategies every day!
Students will learn what mindfulness is, why it works, and how to practice mindfulness on a daily basis through the use of affirmations, gratitude, breathing techniques, grounding, guided meditation, and mindful movement.

One short assessment will be given after the fourth week of this course. I will use this to gather data about what learners have understood and what can be further explained before moving on to the second half of the content.

Yoga mat or other soft, stable surface
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
During week 7, learners will be taught to stretch and pose with several yoga-based movements. Please ensure your child has adequate space if they would like to participate. For these movements, it is best not to wear shoes as this allows students to receive sensory input through their feet and helps with balance. A yoga mat can be helpful to reduce the risk of slipping. A blanket (on a stable surface) or carpeted area can be used in place of a yoga mat if one is not available. Students will benefit from having quick access to water throughout class as well.
