Class Experience

👋Welcome to this beginner ASL small group tutoring class for learners ages 4-9! This is an introductory beginner class. No prior ASL knowledge is needed. Learners can enroll and unenroll at any time!

Is your child interested in learning ASL but doesn't know where to start? If yes, you've come to the right place! I will teach your child the ASl alphabet, new vocabulary, and how to form sentences in ASL with lots of practice through interactive games, songs, and reviews! I love learning and teaching American Sign Language and look forward to sharing my passion with all my students! 🤟🏽

Small group private lessons provide students with opportunities to work at their own pace, maximize learning time, receive a high level of attention, and have lessons tailored to the student's learning style, interests, and needs. Learning alongside other students will allow learners to practice their ASL vocabulary and conversational skills with others and socialize with others of similar ages.

Please send me a private message if you would like to schedule alternative times for private tutoring for your child and we will work together to find a time that works best for us both! As a teacher, I aim to create fun, engaging lessons that are personalized to the interests and goals of their students, focusing on areas, such as hand shape, movement, palm orientation, deaf culture, facial expressions, fingerspelling, alphabet, numbers, vocabulary, grammar, and engaging in basic conversation. Students could have the opportunity to learn the alphabet, colors, numbers, family signs, food signs, animals, days of the week and time, and simple sentences. No prior ASL experience is necessary just an excitement to learn!

Schedule:

Week of Dec 16th Class #1 ASL alphabet and ABC song
Week of Dec 23rd Class #2 ASL ABC Review
Week of Dec 23rd Class #2 Greetings and simple signs (hello, again, yes, no, how are you?)
Week of Dec 30th Class #3 Numbers 1-30
Week of Jan 6th Class #4 Colours (What's your favorite color?)
Week of Jan 13th Class #5 Animals (cat, dog, hamster, horse)

If you have specific requests for lesson content or activities, please inform me at least 24 hours in advance. Your topic request may also be covered in the next lesson. This will provide the teacher with sufficient time to prepare the lesson.

I look forward to seeing your learner in class!

📓Class policy: Since ASL is a visual language each student must have their camera on during this class so that I can help them with the correct hand forms and locations, this is an essential part of learning in this course. Students will also be engaging and practicing their ASL signs and their hands must be seen for this.

Additional Notes:
Many signs have multiple versions, similar to regional words in English. In this class, I will teach the versions that I was taught, but you may see a different sign for the same word in classes with other teachers.
While I have significant knowledge of ASL, I am a part of the hearing community and have different experiences than those of the deaf community. If you are seeking a truly immersive ASL learning experience, I highly encourage you to learn with Deaf teachers in Outschool or in your community.
Learning Goals
The goal of this class is for students to gain further knowledge of American Sign Language and signs, improving their ASL vocabulary, grammar, and conversation skills with other students. This class will also provide students with a foundation in ASL that they can further develop.
