Communication style dictates the success of a person's relationships, education and career. There are four styles of communication. Only one of these styles is sure to get us what we need and strengthen our relationships. Which is it and how can we use it to become better self advocates? In this class we will discuss these communication styles: Passive: not sharing opinions; less able to meet needs and protect rights Passive-aggressive: masking true feelings and opinions while becoming resentful Aggressive: expressing opinions and needs in a way that does not consider the welfare of others Assertive: expressing opinions and needs in an honest and direct way We’ll learn the traits of each style, the risks and benefits of each and decide which style to work toward. Students will be provided with materials related to the lesson to print and keep after class.
