Assignments
1-2 hours per week. Students need to know the meaning of 15 new vocabulary words each lesson- every other week. They will show mastery as they complete the four assignments each week. They will be able to play the Kahoot game with this knowledge. Each new lesson, the previous words are used in the lesson, making it easier for the students to hear those 15 words used over and over each week as we build to the total of 150 new words in the first part of this book.
Assessment
It will be evident if the students are understanding the meaning of our 15 vocabulary words, as we go through the four assigned exercies.

Class Experience

US Grade 7 - 8
In this small group learning setting, the students will greatly improve their reading comprehension by increasing their vocabulary base by learning the vocabulary words from Wordly Wise 3000 Grade nine, part one. This twenty-week course is the teaching of the first half of the grade nine book. You need to have edition four. There are fifteen words in each lesson in the book. Each week we will cover the first part of one lesson. The words will be explained by the teacher, using colorful and interesting slides with an example sentence. Each word has a colorful slide to help students understand the meaning of the word. A discussion of each word will be given, including the different parts of speech of each word. Practice will be provided by using five approaches: finding the meaning using whatever part of speech, using context clues to find just the right word in the sentence, applying the meaning of the word, using the correct form of the word, then reading a narrative using the fifteen words in the lesson. Each lesson includes a nonfiction narrative of high interest. My learning style is informal with lots of student interaction. We end day two of the week with an exciting Kahoot quiz! Kahoot Quizes is a third-party media that is approved by Outschool for use during the lessons. These quizzes are questions based on the fifteen vocabulary words covered in each of the ten lessons.

Multi-day course: Weekly class routine: One day per week

Day One of each week:
* Discuss each of the 15 vocabulary words using the colorful accompanying slide.
* Practice saying the word together. The teacher will show a picture of the word and discuss its part of speech and usage.
* Modeling the word in several sentences so students can hear the word using in context.
*Enrichment provided by higher-level questioning.
*Together we will read the weekly passage and go over the comprehension questions together.
* Outside of class before the next week's class, students will
    1. Complete activities A, B, C, and D

Day Two of the Lesson:
* The correct answers for activities A , B, C, and D will be given, along with a discussion of the correct answers.
* The comprehension questions will be discussed as a group activity each week.
* A Kahoot quiz will be given to check the students' understanding of the words.
*Every four lessons, the students enjoy a crossword puzzle using the words from those lessons.
Each week will follow the same schedule.
There are 20 lessons in the book. This multi-day course will cover the FIRST half of the book and last for twenty weeks.

The reading passages include the following subject matter for the twenty weeks:

Week one: Faces in the Mountain: Mt. Rushmore
Week two: Survivors in the Sand: ants
Week three: Chile's First Lady pf Letters: Gabriela Mistral
Week four: The Longest Journey: The Appalachian Trail
Week five: Ideas That Endure: Confucius
Week six: Silent World? American Sign Language
Week seven: Artists and Soulmates: Georgia O'Keeffe
Week eight: First Gentleman of Sports: Arthur Ashe

Learning Goals

This is a small group educational setting. Students get individual help. Students will learn vocabulary words vital to increased growth in their word base. The goal is to internalize these words.
My learning goal is that the students be able to pronounce the 15 words and are able to identify them in the proper sentences.

This fall marks my 53rd year to teach, as I started teaching in 1972. Of all of the things I have ever taught, I love teaching vocabulary the most because of its value to the learner. Why should a parent chose me as a teacher? Check my reviews and you will see that parents appreciate my warm relationships to their children. I believe I inspire learning and my classes are fun!
As a retired teacher of 33 years, I have taught this same Wordly Wise curriculum in a public classroom for many years. I feel excited and comfortable to be sharing this knowledge with students. I truly feel if the student is interested, and will complete the work, this class will make a huge difference in the life of the student! It just may be a game changer!
