Homework
1 hour per week. Outside of class, students will complete five exercises per week: A, B, C, D, E. They will read the non-fiction passage and answer the 15 questions in complete sentences. There is an informal test each week by using a Kahoot quiz. Students will NOT need a second device, as they can now see the questions and answers on my screen. To prepare for this exciting quiz, students will practice their word meanings by playing Quizlet at home.
Assessment
The best evidence of this class will be when the students begin to use on their own, the words we are studying! Students will not be graded with a letter grade. Students will grade their own work during class. Students will have their knowledge checked by an assessment weekly through our Kahoot Quiz.

Class Experience

US Grade 5 - 8
In this small group learning setting, the students will greatly improve their reading comprehension by increasing their vocabulary base by learning the vocabulary words from Wordly Wise 3000 Grade six, part one. This ten-week course is the teaching of the first half of the grade six book. EDITION FOUR There are fifteen words in each of the twenty lessons in the book. Each week will cover one lesson. The words will be explained by the teacher, using colorful and interesting slides with an example sentence. Each word has a colorful slide to help students understand the meaning of the word. A discussion of each word will be given, including the different parts of speech of each word. Practice will be provided by using five approaches: finding the meaning using whatever part of speech, using context clues to find just the right word in the sentence, applying the meaning of the word, using the correct form of the word, then reading a narrative using the fifteen words in the lesson. Each lesson includes a nonfiction narrative of high interest. My learning style is informal with lots of student interaction. We end day two of the week with an exciting Kahoot quiz!

Multi-day course: Weekly class routine: Two days per week

Day One of each week:
* Discuss each of the 15 vocabulary words using the colorful accompanying slide.
* Practice saying the word together. The teacher will show a picture of the word and discuss its part of speech and usage.
* Modeling the word in several sentences so students can hear the word using in context.
*Enrichment provided by higher-level questioning.
* Complete activities A and B in the workbook together in class
* Outside of class before day two of the week, students will
    1. Complete activities C and D
    2. Read the weekly story and complete the 15 comprehension questions by day two of the week.

Next week:
* The correct answers for activities A and B will be given, along with a discussion of the correct answers.
* The reading passage for the week will be read. The topic for the weekly stories are listed below. Students are invited to read aloud or the teacher will read the passage.
* The comprehension questions will be discussed as a group activity each week.
* A Kahoot quiz will be given to check the students' understanding of the words.
*Every four lessons, the students enjoy a crossword puzzle using the words from those lessons.

Each week will follow the same schedule.

Learning Goals
This is a small group educational setting. Students get individual help. Students will learn vocabulary words vital to increased growth in their word base. The goal is to internalize these words. Students will be made more aware of the words in their world and be able to add them to their normal spoken and written vocabulary.
Reading comprehension naturally increases because of added knowledge of new words.
My other important goal is to get the student excited about reading and learning new words!

Of all of the things I have ever taught, I love teaching vocabulary the most because of its value to the learner. Why should a parent chose me as a teacher? Check my reviews and you will see that parents appreciate my warm relationships to their children. I believe I inspire learning and my classes are fun!
As a retired teacher of 33 years, I have taught this same Wordly Wise curriculum in a public classroom for many years. I feel excited and comfortable to be sharing this knowledge with students. I truly feel if the student is interested, and will complete the work, this class will make a huge difference in the life of the student! It just may be a game changer!
