What's included

10 live meetings
7 hrs 30 mins in-class hours
Homework
1 hour per week. As in any other class a learner might take, the more parent involvement, the greater the success. Parents will need to make sure their learner understands all the ten words each week. Before Day Two of the weekly class, parents should listen to the learner read the story (exercise D) and guide learner to complete the review crossword puzzle at the end of each lesson.
Assessment
The best evidence of the success of this class will be when the learners begin to use on their own, the words we are studying! Students will not be graded with a letter grade. Students will grade their own work during class.

Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 2
The students will greatly improve their vocabulary base by learning the vocabulary words from Wordly Wise Book two- Grade two, part two. There are ten words in each of the fifteen lessons in the book. This class will last ten weeks. We will cover the last five lessons in book in this five-week course. The words will be explained by Mrs. Wolf, using colorful and interesting slides with an example sentence. Each word has a colorful slide to help students understand the meaning of the word. A discussion of each word will be given, including for the different parts of speech. A sample sentence will be studied for each part of speech. Practice will be provided by using five approaches: finding the meaning using whatever part of speech, using context clues to find just the right word in the sentence, applying the meaning of the word, using the correct form of the word, then reading a narrative using the ten words in the lesson. Each lesson includes a nonfiction narrative of high interest and a crossword puzzle. My learning style is informal with lots of student interaction. My goal is to have each child loving this class because he or she is learning and having fun!

Multi-day course: Weekly class routine: Two days per week

Day One of each week:
* Discuss each of the 10 vocabulary words using the colorful accompanying slide.
* Practice saying the word together. The teacher will show a picture of the word and discuss its part of speech and usage.
* Modeling the word in several sentences so students can hear the word using in context. The sentences that use each definition are on a slide.
* Complete exercises A, and B in the workbook together in class
* Outside of class before day two of the week, students will
    1. Complete exercise C and the crossword puzzle for this lesson.
    2. Read the weekly story aloud to an adult and be prepared to complete the comprehension questions together on day two of the week.

Second meeting of the lesson:
* The correct answers for exercise C will be given, along with a discussion of the correct answers.
* The reading passage for the week will be read. The topic for the weekly stories is listed below. Students are invited to read aloud or the teacher will read the passage. My goal is to have the learners comfortable as to not be embarrassed to read aloud in class.
* The comprehension questions will be completed as a group activity each week.

Each week will follow the same schedule.
There are 15 lessons in the book. This multi-day course will cover the last five lessons in the book and last for ten weeks.
The reading passages include the following subject matter for the five weeks:
Week one: Watch Out for Dragons
Week two: Castles of Sand
Week three: The Lost City of the Incas
Week four: Elephant Country
Week five: Music of the Island
Learning Goals
Students will learn vocabulary words vital to increased growth in their word base. My goal is for the learners to internalize these words. Students will be made more aware of the words in their world and be able to add them to their normal spoken and written vocabulary.
