Come and have fun baking soul cakes with a UK teacher, and learn some history and culture from British Halloween celebrations. (Look out for other classes in the series - bakes from England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales and UK celebrations.)
Class experience
I'm looking forward to sharing this recipe with you! Soul cakes are delicious fruity, spicy biscuits that were traditionally given to 'soulers' at Hallowe'en. Although they are called cakes, they are actually a cross between a cake and a British biscuit. We will start by putting our aprons on and briefly introducing ourselves and then finding out what the students already know about the traditions of Hallowe'en. We will look at a map and find the British Isles, and talk a few of the many...
Students will be able to make soul cakes using a traditional British recipe. They will know where the British Isles are, and they will also know a few of the traditions associated with Hallowe'en in the UK.
Homework Offered
Just in case the soul cakes aren't completely baked by the end of the class, you may need to finish them off after the class has finished. Oh yes, make sure you are ready to share the soul cakes with your family and friends.Assessments Offered

Equipment: Large bowl, wooden spoon, baking tray lined with non-stick paper, rolling pin, 3in (7.5cm) round pastry cutter (approx), wire rack, table knife, measuring cups/weighing scales.
