In this ongoing course, students will learn how to cook and bake a variety of different desserts, everything from cakes and cookies, to a variety of flavored candies and chocolates!

Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 6
This class is taught in English.
  • In Sweet Treats and Desserts Baking Club, students will learn and practice the following skills: 1. baking 2. creativity 3. math 4. kitchen etiquette 5. communication 6. time management 7. math 8. and social skills.
I have been a teacher for over 26 years and a baker for over 40, 28 of those as a professional baker. I have baked for many celebrations such as birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, you name it, I've been hired for it! I will teach your child how to be creative, imaginative, and how to substitute ingredients where and when needed. There isn't a treat too small or a dessert too big that my students can't handle. Watch your child grow in the kitchen not only as a baker, but as a responsible baker. They will learn kitchen safety and how to properly handle kitchen equipment and utensils.

No-Bake Banana Caramel Pecan Pie… 7/22 Through 7/27

Ingredients For Crust: 
11 oz Shortbread Cookies (about 2 Cups crushed)
¼ C Pecans
2 Tbsp Sugar
6 Tbsp Butter
Optional: You can also use a "ready to use" Graham Cracker or a Pecan Pie Crust instead

Caramel Layer:
11 oz Caramels (unwrapped before class) (NOT caramel bits)
2 Tbsp Heavy Whipping Cream

Banana Pecan Layer:
1 C Milk
1 (3.4 oz) Box Banana Instant Pudding
4 oz Cream Cheese (room temperature)
½ C Sweetened Condensed Milk
1 Banana (diced)
½ C Pecans (chopped)
Optional: Top with cool whip and extra pecans

Hand or Stand Mixer
Food processor or Blender
Pie Dish
Small saucepan
Large bowl
Medium Bowl

Cinnamon Bread… 7/29 Through 8/3

Yield: Makes 2 Loafs in Bread Pans OR 1- 9 x 13 Cake Pan 

Ingredients: Bread
1 C Butter
2 C White Sugar
2 Eggs
2 C Buttermilk (homemade is 2 C milk and 2 Tbsp vinegar or lemon juice)
4 C Flour
2 tsp Baking Soda

Ingredients: Cinnamon Topping
2/3 C White Sugar
2 tsp Cinnamon

Optional: Ingredients for Royal Icing
2 C Powdered Sugar
2 Tbsp Meringue Powder (no substitutes) (not plain egg white powder) (found with pro baking supplies in stores)
5 Tbsp Water (room temperature)

Hand or Stand Mixer
2 Bread Loaf Pans OR 9x13 Cake Pan
Large Mixing Bowl
Small Mixing Bowl

Peanut Butter Cereal Treats… 8/5 Through 8/10

Ingredients:
30 Large Marshmallows
3 Tbsp Butter
1 Tbsp Peanut Butter
6 C Peanut Butter Cap’n Crunch Cereal
1 ½ C M&M’s or Reese’s Pieces

Equipment and Utensils:
Large Saucepan or Pot
9x13 Cake Pan
Measuring Cups
Measuring Spoons
Heavy Duty Spoon


Mini Blueberry Tarts… 8/12 Through 8/17

Yield: Makes 6 Mini Tarts. Double the recipe if you need more

Ingredients:
2 C Fresh Blueberries (can use any fresh fruit of your choice such as strawberries, peaches, or cherries. Please have washed, diced and ready to go before class)
1/3 C White Sugar
4 tsp Cornstarch
2 Sheets Rolled Refrigerated Pie Crusts
1 Egg Yolk (no egg whites, we need just the yolk)
3 Tbsp Flour (for dusting countertop)

Equipment and Utensils:
Cupcake Pan
Medium Bowl
Measuring Cups
Measuring Spoons
Rolling Pin
Whisk
Pastry Brush
Spoon (serving spoon or cereal spoon work fine)
Pizza Cutter or Pastry Cutter
Please note: Prior to class, please cut out a 4 ½ inch circle and a 2 inch circle using either cardstock or construction paper. This will be our template for the crusts.

Parents are encouraged to supervise their child when certain utensils or equipment are being used, such as knives, blenders, the stove top and oven.
