This class will teach basic baking skills and how to read and follow a recipe. The class will be interactive and hands-on and will encourage learners to follow along with the teacher to create delicious baked goods each week. Classes will focus on the preparation of each treat and will finish with the treats going in the oven or being plated. Learners will be encouraged to post pictures of their finished products in the classroom. What we will be baking each week be decided by class or teacher suggestions and recipes will be posted at least 5 days in advance of the next class. Recipes could include: cookies, pastry, brownies, cakes, muffins, etc. Baking is a wonderful life skill for young learners to develop. Baking helps to develop: - use of fractions, - estimation, - division, - measurement, - temperature, - following step-by-step instructions Learners will be expected to come to class prepared to follow along at home with their own ingredients and tools. No previous skills are required. Beginner bakers are welcome to come, have fun, and try their hand at creating beautiful sweet treats!

Parental Guidance

Depending on what is being baked, students may need access to and use of knives, stovetops, and ovens. This is a potential hazard and parental guidance is recommended.
There is also a potential allergen risk. Please monitor the ingredients you use and adjust for any potential allergies your child may have.
Supply List
Recipes will be provided weekly, at least 5 days in advance. Learners will also need access to a mixer (stand or hand), baking sheets, measuring cups, mixing spoons, spatula, parchment paper.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

My name is Chantal MacDonald and I am thrilled to be working with OutSchool! I feel privileged to have the opportunity to teach your children! It is my desire to get young learners excited about language and literature. I love to study. I completed my Bachelor of Arts in English and my Bachelor of Education degrees at Crandall University and studied one semester at Oxford University in England. I also completed my Master of Arts in English literature at the University of Ottawa. I love anything Disney, baking, reading, playing music, and spending time with my husband and three young children. I would love to be your teacher!
