B, d, p, and q can be very confusing for children who are learning to read and write. These sneaky letters are all the same shape and the only difference is the direction they face. This Orton-Gillingham based class is for learners who know their letters and sounds and can read simple words, but confuse the letters b, d, p, and q. I will teach multiple strategies for distinguishing between b and d, as well as p and q. We will practice these strategies by reading words and stories, writing, playing games, and using multiple senses. I will introduce one letter at a time and each class builds on learned skills.

Hello! I am an Elementary classroom teacher with a Master's degree in Elementary Education, Orton-Gillingham training, and 11 years of teaching and tutoring experience. I also have a year of experience teaching online classes. Here on Outschool I will be offering classes in reading, writing, and math that are presented in an engaging way.
I believe that connections are the heart of education. When children engage their critical thinking skills during a memorable experience, their brain builds and strengthens connections. The more connections that are made and strengthened during a learning experience, the more the lesson will make a lasting impression. I design all of my lessons to promote critical thinking and engage learners.
I live in Texas with my husband (also a teacher), four-year-old daughter (Emmaline), and a spoiled miniature dachshund (to whom my grandmother used to feed spaghetti with a fork!). I love to read, travel, and explore new places. I also love all things Disney!
