Welcome to the Axolotl Social Club—a fun and interactive space where young animal lovers can learn all about these adorable amphibians while making new friends! Each week, we’ll explore a different axolotl-related topic, play games, share fun facts, and even do creative activities like drawing, storytelling, and mini science experiments. Whether you own an axolotl, dream of having one, or just love these fascinating creatures, this club is the perfect place to learn, share, and have fun with fellow axolotl enthusiasts! What We’ll Do Each Week: ✔️ Watch & observe a live axolotl—meet different axolotl ambassadors! ✔️ Participate in hands-on axolotl-themed activities (crafts, games, and more!) ✔️ Discuss fun axolotl facts & ask questions in an interactive setting ✔️ Engage with fellow axolotl enthusiasts in a welcoming and informal space What Makes This Class Special? 🐟 Each session is informal, with a rotating axolotl ambassador and different weekly activities! 🌊 Snack time varies, so learners can see axolotls in action during mealtime. 🎨 Craft & activity printables will be provided, making participation easy! 🐾 8-Week Club Schedule Week 1: Axolotl 101 – Meet the Smiling Salamander! What is an axolotl? (Fun facts & intro to their species) Interactive game: “Fact or Fiction” Axolotl Edition! Student share time: What do YOU love about axolotls? Week 2: The Science Behind Axolotls – Superpowers & Regeneration How can axolotls regrow body parts? Why don’t they turn into regular salamanders? Creative Activity: “Design a Super Axolotl” (students draw an axolotl with extra superpowers) Week 3: Axolotl Habitats – Wild vs. Captivity Where do axolotls live in the wild? What kind of tank setup do pet axolotls need? Show & Tell: If students own axolotls, they can share their setups! Activity: Create an axolotl out of clay Week 4: Axolotl Care – What Do They Eat & How Do They Grow? What do axolotls eat in the wild vs. in captivity? Life cycle of an axolotl Activity: Create an Axolotl Lifecycle Fun discussion: Would you rather be an axolotl or another amphibian? Why? Week 5: Axolotl Mythbusters – Debunking Common Myths Myth #1: Can axolotls live on land? Myth #2: Do axolotls bite? Myth #3: Are they related to Pokémon? Interactive game: "Axolotl True or False!" Share time: Do YOU know any fun axolotl facts? Week 6: Axolotls in Art & Pop Culture Axolotls in Pokémon, Minecraft, and mythology Creative activity: Axolotl Craft Time! (printable will be posted to the classroom) Show & Tell: If students have axolotl merch, they can share it! Week 7: Conservation & How to Help Axolotls Why are wild axolotls endangered? Hi! I’m Tanee Janusz, a passionate environmental educator and experienced animal keeper with over 25 years in the field. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Earth & Environmental Sciences and am currently pursuing my Master’s in Conservation Education. As a certified Master Naturalist and board member for my local chapter, I love sharing my knowledge and enthusiasm for wildlife and conservation.
Throughout my career, I’ve worked as a zookeeper, environmental educator, and education specialist at zoos, aquariums, nature centers, museums, and universities. Now, I run my own animal education outreach business, where I introduce students to my incredible ambassador animals—many of whom are rescues or owner surrenders.
In my classes, students get to meet and learn about fascinating creatures up close, fostering a deeper appreciation for the natural world. And if you’re wondering—yes, my favorite animals are axolotls and snakes!
