In this camp, students will be learning all about apex predators! Each day is focused on a specific apex predator. The three we will be focusing on are lions, komodo dragons and polar bears! Each day will consist of an interactive lecture about the animal of the day, short videos and then finish with an unique art project. The first week, we will learn what an apex predator is and what makes them so unique. Then we will learn about lions, their habitat and unique adaptations. We will finish the class by making a lion mask. The second week, we will learn all about komodo dragons! We will then make a komodo dragon out of egg carton. Finally, the last week, we will learn about polar bears and the challenges they face. Our final art project will be making a polar bear out of cotton balls.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi there! My name is Addison and I am an Environmental Educator. I currently work at an animal rescue center where I lead public tours, run field trips and go into LAUSD classrooms to teach students about wildlife, the environment and science. I majored in Agriculture and Environmental Education at UC Davis. It is my passion to teach students about the natural world around them. I was a Lead Instructor at UC Davis in a club called Sprout Up, which went into local public schools and taught 1st and 2nd graders environmental education. In addition, I was an Education Interpreter at the Aquarium of the Pacific where I engaged with the public and informed them about the marine animals they were encountering and the ocean. From these experiences, I have developed classes about wildlife and the environment that I will be offering here! I am a very patient, fun and encouraging teacher. I believe that making a connection with students is important and leads to more engaged and happy students. Finally, I do have a pet leopard gecko, named Jeb, that will definitely be making appearances! Can't wait to meet you all!
