Class Experience

In this class, we will be discussing killer whale characteristics, diets, and habitats. We will also talk about their threats and how we can help to protect them.

An optional worksheet will be provided for students who would like to consolidate their learning after class.

*PLEASE NOTE - I ALSO TEACH THIS CLASS FOR AGES 11-14*

My teaching style is extremely motivating, fun and engaging! My classes are well structured, interactive and discussion-based. The information will be backed up with a PowerPoint presentation. The most important thing for me in the classroom is for my students to feel comfortable, learn and have fun whilst doing so. Students will be encouraged to ask questions and discuss, but I am equally happy for students to sit there quietly and taking on all of the information provided, if preferred!

This class will be a general overview of killer whale, so no prior knowledge is needed for this class, just a want to learn more about these super cool species'. However, the sharing of prior knowledge with is highly encouraged!

As a science teacher with a bachelors degree in zoology, currently studying for a masters in conservation biology, I am more than qualified to teach this class! I cannot wait to meet you all in my class soon 😊
Learning Goals
Upon completion of this course students will be able to:
-Identify the classification of a killer whale
-Explain how killer whales communicate with each other and their environment
-Understand the threats that killer whales face and what we can do to protect them

*I AM CURRENTLY TAKING A YEAR LONG BREAK FROM OUTSCHOOL AS I AM MOVING TO AUSTRALIA! I will miss all of my lovely and loyal students very much!*

Hello! My name is Natasha, a qualified science teacher from England. I have a bachelor’s degree in Zoology, as well as a Master’s degree in Conservation Biology, where I researched sharks and ways to boost their conservation status! I have previously studied Spinner Dolphin anatomy and I spent the past summer monitoring Bottlenose Dolphin and Minke Whale populations for a marine conservation charity.

I have also recently worked with the Manta Trust to develop marine conservation resources within their education portal for use within classrooms all around the world as I am super passionate about children of all ages being able to access marine conservation!

I have a huge passion for all animals, specifically marine animals, and the conservation of marine environments. I have taken part in conservation projects around the world to help protect endangered animals, mainly in Kenya, Thailand, Borneo and the UK. But most importantly, my biggest passion is teaching children about the importance of conservation of our natural world!

I have an array of teaching experience where I have taught students from ages 3-18, in formal and informal settings, planning and delivering education. I am a trained secondary school science teacher (ages 11-18) and have also spent the past year working online as an English language teacher.

As a teacher I am bubbly, energetic, motivating and funny. I will try to make our lessons as fun as possible for the both of us so you leave our lessons with a smile as well as knowledge. I believe in a very interactive teaching style that is fun and engaging. My goal is to create a warm environment to bring even shy learners and their valuable contributions into the light. One of my passions is travelling the world to meet new people and experience new cultures, so maybe I can learn a few things from you also.

I look forward to the opportunity of meeting you all soon!

CLASS POLICIES:
EXPECTATIONS:
1) Students are required to have cameras and microphones in class. Classes are a much more engaging, social, and safe experience this way.
2) If no students have arrived in the classroom after ten minutes, I will exit the classroom.
3) Rude or disruptive behavior will not be tolerated. Students will be warned and if the behavior continues, they will be moved into the waiting room. All of my students deserve a supportive, focused, and pleasant learning environment!

REFUNDS:
My classes follow the standard 'Limited' refund policy model - Full refund until a week in advance, or within 24 hours of purchase. Following the Outschool Policy, if you miss a class, you are not entitled to a refund. Lastly, no refunds will be issued by the teacher for technical issues on the student's end.

SIBLINGS:
Please make sure that you have enrolled all learner siblings who will participate in class. This is to be fair to other learners, and it makes sure we do not exceed the expected class participant number.

Thank you for understanding!
