In this condensed calculus session, students will deepen their understanding of the concepts of limit and continuity. It is assumed that students have already been taught these concepts in school or that they learned them by themselves. The comprehensive list of topics that we will discuss and practice during this time is: 1. One sided limits and the definition of limit 2. Proving that the limit does not exist (including the limit from the movie "Mean Girls") 3. Calculating limits by direct substitution, factoring, conjugate/rationalization, etc. 4. Trig and absolute value limits 5. Limits at infinity (horizontal asymptotes) 6. Infinite Limits 7. Continuity and types of discontinuities 8. Intermediate Value Theorem and Squeeze/Sandwich theorem I carefully select problems for each topic from either past AP exams, or other sources that I trust for correctness and accuracy. The problems are medium-advanced, and none of them are "fillers" - each is selected to maximize your understanding and to review pre-calculus concepts like asymptotes, conjugates, etc. The class is designed to be a safe place to share ideas, to learn how to communicate complex math concepts, to brainstorm with other students your age, and to get help from a supportive and knowledgeable teacher. It will be both productive & fun! Logistics: we will use the Zoom built into Outschool, a white board, and I will share my screen while we solve the problems together. Note: Per Outschool rules, you will need to start your camera at the beginning of the session so I make sure your age is <18.
Learning Goals
Master the tricks and tips related to limits and continuity concepts in the AP Calculus course. Become confident in these topics.
