This is an exciting hands-on drawing course. Students are expected to complete and post weekly drawing tasks, share their work in the Classroom and are encouraged to communicate Ms. Megan with each other. Upon completion of this Course, Students will be sent an Official Animator’s Toolbox Certificate (.pdf/digital file) designed and signed by Ms. Megan herself!Class Experience
Join renowned former Animator, Toy Designer, Children’s Author, and Product Designer for the LEGO Group Megan H. Rothrock as she teaches specialized skills and techniques from her many years in the Animation and Toy Industries. Together, we will dive into the wonderful world of Character Design! It all begins with a simple line. How you use that line and build from it will determine, expression, structure, style and the outcome of a character. This Class is perfect for anyone with a passion to draw or learn the joys of drawing! This seven week Flexible Schedule Course is highly engaging, interactive and filled with: exciting techniques, drawing mechanics, trade secrets, Legends of Animation and loads of fun! Starting with some core sketching techniques, each Class will build on what you have learned before allowing your work evolve! To be a strong animator it is also very important have a foot in its’ History therefore we will not only be drawing, we will also study some of the Legends of Animation including: Walt Disney Studios, Chuck Jones and Aardman studios to name a few. Ms. Megan has created unique, technical engaging and interactive content, each one is packed with great tools to add to your toolbox. Each session you will learn and practice new drawing techniques to share with Ms. Megan and your Classmates. Artwork and comments will be shared via our Classroom. As these are not live sessions, you have the advantage to pause, reflect and review any sections from Ms. Megan’s instructions and if you have any questions, she is just a click around the corner. By the end of this drawing adventure you will know much more about this magical world and able to design your very own Character! *Upon completion of this Course, Students will be sent an Official Animator’s Toolbox Certificate (.pdf/digital file) designed and signed by Ms. Megan herself! Some of the items we will cover include: Scribble Drawing/Circle Drawing - Drawing from life (animals), Cross-hatching - Two-Point Perspective - Light-source - Line of Action - Silhouettes - Marionette - Character Expression and more. While there are amazing digital tools today, knowing the processes and understanding how to draw and create form and line with pen and paper is an imperative tool in any Animation, Design or Commercial Art Industry. Learning Goals
Students will learn specialized techniques that are desired in Animation, Toy and Design Industries. Along with learning collaboration, working to deadlines and sharing their work, they will gain confidence with what they are creating, expand their skill sets and add new Tools to their own Animator's Toolbox!
