In this fascinating weekly Animal Science class, students will learn interesting, fun and educational facts about animals. Each week students will be introduce to a new animal, some of which are unusual and they have never heard of before! We will learn all about that animal including: what kind of habitat it lives in, common behaviors (such as hibernation or migration), what it likes to eat and other fun facts. This course will use an interesting slideshow with pictures, videos and fun animal facts. Each week there will also be interactive activities and an optional printable/coloring sheet, which can be completed during or after class if the student would like to complete it. Some weeks will also have an optional DIY craft activity as well. ***This class sometimes uses Nearpod for presentation and interactive activities. Upon entering the classroom, a link will be provided to you. Please click on the link to enter the Nearpod portal - no separate account is necessary. Your student can use the mouse or a touch screen to complete the activities if they choose to participate. Teacher expertise and credentials
Welcome to my classroom! My name is Lisa and I am so excited to share my love of animals, art and all things creative with you. Animals and art have always been such a huge part of my life. We live on 6 acres in the country and have a hobby farm with chickens, turkeys, Nigerian Dwarf goats and a mini donkey. We also have two very spoiled dogs and two cats. I love being out in nature and being able to teach about it is my passion.
Professionally I have 10 years experience as a veterinary technician. Helping animals (domestic and wildlife) and teaching others about animals has always been so important to me. My children are 8 and 10 years old and we spend a lot of time together learning and taking care of animals. I am a Girl Scout leader so we are often out exploring nature with the girls and earning badges. My favorite topics to teach them about are things that they may not have typically been exposed to before, like snakes, armadillos or honeybees. There is such a large animal kingdom to learn about out there and I love to show children how cool these animals actually are and that they don't have to be afraid of them (though they do need to respect them).
Art is another passion of mine. I love to be creative and find art everywhere I go. I have 5 years experience as a graphic designer and love to paint, sculpt, and make jewelry. One of my favorite past times is building with legos or making Play-Doh creations with my kids and seeing what fun things we can come up with. I find these types of creative activities to be so much fun and I can't wait to share them with your student.
