Beginner Level
In this one time class, learners will listen to a story read fluently called Stranger In The Woods by Carl R. Sams. During the research part of the class, the students will share out what they know about deer and reindeer. We will chart the research. The students will then use their listening skills to create a step by step drawing of a reindeer. The red nose will be optional! :) The students will then add non fiction labels to their drawings to point out the most important parts of a reindeer. If the students feel comfortable, they can share their finished projects with others in the class. They will end the class with a reindeer parade. The finished project is sure to look festive hanging on the wall or refrigerator for the holidays!

Hi! Welcome to my Outschool classroom.
My name is Betty Nilssen. 💕
I have a BS in Elementary Education with a minor in Spanish from UW-Milwaukee. I am a first grade teacher, but I have also taught second, third and fourth grade, full inclusive classrooms. My passion for teaching reading while incorporating phonics, phonemic awareness, rhyming, comprehension, fluency, vocabulary, science, social studies, math, drawing and writing helps children strengthen their academic skills while they gain academic confidence and a love of learning. Teaching reading is my super power.
However, I always incorporate math, writing, drawing, social studies and science into all of my lessons, as well.
I have three adult daughters and two of them are teachers. My mom was also an educator.
There are so many books to read, words and sentences to write, math equations to solve and fiction and non fiction pictures to draw. Let's get started!
Enroll your Early Childhood Education student and your child will further develop an academic foundation and gain academic confidence with a love of learning. Your child will be a life time reader!
Feel free to reach out to me with any questions or if you are looking for different times or dates for classes.
I can't wait to work with you and your child and further a passion for learning!
