Winter Camp: Non Fiction, Science, Drawing, Reading Comprehension
In this four time science class, the students will discuss and learn all about animals that migrate/hibernate/adapt, reindeer facts, penguin facts, and about our five senses in winter with an experienced teacher.

Beginner Level
In this four time science class, the students will focus on one science winter/non fiction topic in each class. The topics are: penguins, hibernation/migration/adaptation, reindeer, and the five senses in Winter. The students will listen to fiction and non fiction books and look at photos during the "research" part of the class. The students will learn facts and discuss life cycles. They will practice following directions to create drawings with a life cycle or non-fiction labels. They will share their work with their classmates, if they feel comfortable doing so. The students will also add words or labels to their drawings and life cycles. The finished projects will be science research projects that are All About Winter. Week one: Penguin research and a project Week two: Animals that migrate, hibernate or adapt project Week three: Reindeer research and a project Week four: Our Five Senses in the Winter project

Lesson 2:
All About Hibernation/Migration/Adaptation
Playing a game about Hibernation/Migration/Adaptation and drawing step by step animals and placing them where they belong. 30 mins online live lesson
Lesson 3:
All About Reindeer
Literacy: Non fiction Reindeer book with step by step drawing of a deer with antlers with non fiction labels. 30 mins online live lesson
Lesson 4:
Our Five Senses in Winter
Literacy: Five Senses story with step by step drawing of our five senses in the winter. 30 mins online live lesson

Supply List
Students will need white paper, a pencil, and crayons or colored pencils for each class.
External Resources

My name is Betty Nilssen. 💕
I have a BS in Elementary Education with a minor in Spanish from UW-Milwaukee. I am a first grade teacher, but I have also taught second, third and fourth grade, full inclusive classrooms. My teaching license certifies me to teach grades 1~6. My passion for teaching reading while incorporating phonics, phonemic awareness, rhyming, comprehension, fluency, vocabulary, science, social studies, math, drawing and writing helps children strengthen their academic skills while they gain academic confidence and a love of learning. Teaching reading is my super power. I can support your young learner.
I have three adult daughters and two of them are teachers. My mom was also an educator.
There are so many books to read, words and sentences to write, math equations to solve and fiction and non fiction pictures to draw and label. Let's get started!
