Description
Class Experience
Course Description - This course develops advanced algebra skills such as systems of equations, advanced polynomials, imaginary and complex numbers, quadratics, and concepts and includes the study of trigonometric functions. It also introduces matrices and their properties. The content of this course are important for students’ success on both the ACT and SAT as well as college mathematics entrance exams. Students who complete Algebra II should take Pre-Calculus next. UNIT 7 - Radical...
This class is taught in English.
Upon completion of this course, you should be able to: * Use algebraic expressions to represent patterns, solve equations and inequalities, and solve absolute value equations. Students will also use functions to model real world situations, work with functions, and analyze transformations and characteristics of the four basic function families. * Find the vertex and standard form of a quadratic equation, factor a quadratic expression, solve a quadratic equation, and gain an understanding of complex numbers. * Classify, graph, and define end behavior of polynomial functions. Students will also be able to analyze the factored form of the polynomial and write polynomial function from its zeros, to solve polynomial function by graphing and factoring, to divide polynomials by long division and synthetic division, to model polynomial functions, and identify the effect of transformations of polynomial functions. * Work with radicals as a part of a function, equation, or by themselves. Students will be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide functions, to find the composite of two functions, and to find the inverse of a relation or a function. * Understand the relationship between exponential and logarithmic function and to be able to model exponential and logarithmic functions. * Graph rational functions and solve rational equations * Using Matrices to organize data and solve problems
I have been a math teacher for more than 25 years. I am certified in Michigan grades 5 to 12.
Students will be assigned homework practice and quizzes that will be graded as we complete them. Homework will be weighted 10% of their overall grade. Quizzes will be weighted 30% of their overall grade.
I will attach(in OUTSCHOOL) weekly curriculum materials. Materials: Each student must bring the following to class meetings weekly: 1. Pen and pencil (including colored pencils) 2. Texas Instrument Calculator (Ti-83 or Higher) or on-line graphing calculator DESMOS 3. Folder (preferably a 3-ring binder with dividers) to hold class work and assessments 4. Graph Paper 5. Highlighters for notes
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Tests will be given at the end of each unit which will be graded as well. Test will be weight 60% of their overall grade. Progress reports will be given halfway through. Final grade Transcript will be given to each student upon completion.
1 hour per week in class, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
