Algebra 2 Concepts - A Summer Boot Camp
Class experience
US Grade 7 - 10
When students understand the conceptual foundations of Algebra 2, learning problems and formulas becomes logical and students tend to progress at a faster pace with greater confidence. This course provides an in-depth overview of key foundational concepts needed to be successful in Algebra 2. It is designed as a preparation course for students entering Algebra 2, or as a review of Algebra 2 for students entering upper level math. The class meets for eight 45 minute sessions over 4 weeks. ...
8 lessons//2 Weeks
Week 1Lesson 1POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE EXPONENTSOur first session will be a review of key Algebra 1 concepts and a lesson on both positive and negative exponents.Lesson 2FRACTIONAL EXPONENTS AND RATIONAL EXPRESSIONSThis session will focus on fractional exponents and rational expressions as a foundation for learning to solve more complex problems presented in Algebra 2.Lesson 3WORKING WITH RADICALSIn session 3, students will review adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing radicals, and new methods for simplifying radicals and rationalizing denominators. This is an interactive session where students will be applying concepts learned in class to assist with understanding in preparation for the following sessions.Lesson 4IMAGINARY NUMBERSIn this session, students are exposed to their first numbering system outside the set of Real Numbers: Imaginary Numbers. We will cover both the history and application for the set of Imaginary Numbers.Week 2Lesson 5COMPLEX NUMBERSIn this session, we will continue our exploration of the set of Imaginary Numbers through the use and application of Complex Numbers. Students will solve complex algebraic equations in class in order to apply what was learned and build confidence.Lesson 6FACTORING POLYNOMIALSSession 6 will review the methods for factoring polynomials, including positive and negative polynomials, GCF, and repeated factoring with a focus on special case scenarios.Lesson 7CONJUGATE NUMBERSFactoring of polynomials in session 6 provides the foundation for our discussion and lesson on Conjugate Numbers in this session. Students will learn the definition and application of conjugate numbers and be able to apply what they learn in class while solving complex equations.Lesson 8TRIGONOMETRY AND VECTORSIn this final session, students are given an overview of trigonometry and a lesson on Vectors. This is typically a fun lesson for students. The lesson gives students a preview into more advanced concepts and insight into how advanced math fits into the world in which we live.
