In this theme-based writing curriculum, students write about adventurous topics such as Roman hoplites, tornadoes, Leif Eriksson, and other interesting subjects while they learn to write with the Structure and Style® writing method.

Homework
1 hour per week. Homework will be assigned each week and should be uploaded to the classroom before class. Each writing assignment includes a composition checklist, so what is expected is easily outlined. Papers are graded on a rubric, based on a checklist provided with each assignment.
Letter Grade
By request a report card will be provided, grades can also be seen in google classroom.

Course Overview:
This theme-based writing curriculum allows students to explore a variety of fascinating subjects while learning to write with the Structure and Style® method. Topics include Roman hoplites, tornadoes, Leif Eriksson, and more. The course incorporates stylistic techniques and grammar concepts, reinforced through fun videos and songs.

Activities: Watch theme video, review vocabulary, start writing assignment.
Week 2 - Lesson 11

Activities: Strong verbs, banned words (say/said), complete writing assignment.
Week 3 - Unit 4, Lesson 12

Topic: Summarizing a Reference - Leif Eriksson
Activities: Banned words (see/saw), summarizing techniques, vocabulary review.

Homework:
Homework assignments will be provided each week and will come from the student book. Students are expected to upload their homework to Google Classroom before the next class for review.

Additional Notes:

Stylistic techniques such as -ly adverbs, who-which clauses, strong verbs, because clauses, quality adjectives, adverbial clauses, and sentence openers will be integrated throughout the course.
Vocabulary cards should be organized using file folders and envelopes or ziplock bags for easy review and practice.
Learning Goals
Moving through Units 1–7 of the IEW methods, students will take notes, summarize narrative stories, write from pictures, put together a mini research report, and compose creative essays, games, vocabulary, and more.
