Beginner Level
Adventure Island: Exploring Books, Unleashing Imaginations This reading course is designed to maintain and enhance students' comprehension skills in order to gain a deeper understanding of the text. This course begins with a simple comprehension practice and builds to more rigorous comprehension skills. This is a self paced course where students will be responsible for watching the videos to gain the skill and strategy, then put it into practice using the resources and links provided. We will read stories, poems, nonfiction articles and even listen to music. The comprehension skills this course covers are listed below: Retelling Summarizing Analyzing poetry Text Structure Theme Morals/Central Message Each lesson will come complete with a video lesson taught by me, interactive practice links and additional resources. If a student needs additional practice on a particular skill, additional activity links and or videos will be provided. Students will also have various resource links for fun review and practice games.
Learning Goals
In this course students will analyze various text genres through examining text structure. Students will apply analysis through constructing a written response explaining text connections and inferences to defend and support claims about the text.
