Students will learn the rules for adding integers and take notes on it. The rules will be expressed using counters, which they will be able to draw, and then we will move on to only using counters mentally and focus more on using only rules. This is a lesson that I have taught both in a public school with a class of 30 students and in private tutoring setting, and I have always been able to identify the misconceptions regarding this lesson. This helps me adjust the lesson to individual needs.
Students should bring a journal or sheets of paper to class as well as two two colored pens, markers or colors.
