In this interactive class, students will bring history to life through a one of a kind virtual adventure. This class can best be described as "imaginative play" where they are the center of their own storybook adventure. Through an engaging character, "Abby the Archeologist", students will become explorers of their own as we explore a pretend dig site, piece together clues, and make stories behind our findings to create our own story about the past. This will teach critical thinking and analyzing skills while using our imaginations. Students are encouraged to have a pencil and paper (or notebook) as we'll create a research journal from our findings. This is the first class in a series I'll be releasing - stay tuned for more! I couldn't be more excited to bring this fun character dynamic using experiences from my own personal travels and studies while inspiring learners of all ages to evaluate the world around them!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Welcome to my page! I am so happy you're here. I am an educator of 10 years with diverse performing and travel experiences that I incorporate into my teaching. I own a children's entertainment company and perform at local events and charities as children's storybook characters. A unique twist I try to put into many of my classes is using these beloved children's characters as a teaching tool and to create a learning space immersed in imagination. My goal is to connect with each child to help them find their passion and inspire them to use their unique gifts to bring to the world!
EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
I am currently a program director and lead teacher for a preschool dance program. I have also been teaching drama, dance, and musical theater classes at various theaters for over 10 years as well as serving on directing teams for multiple children's productions. Formerly, I was a Kindergarten paraprofessional and specials teacher at a private school for 5 years. I hold a Master's degree in Educational Technology with an elementary education emphasis and a Bachelor's in English with a double minor in marketing and writing.
PERFORMING EXPERIENCE
One way I make many of my classes unique is teaching the class as a character; bridging the gap between imagination and education. I have been a children's performer for 8 1/2 years. I started out as a birthday party entertainer and moved toward meet and greets and performance based events at libraries, theaters, and hospitals. I am always happy to host a virtual birthday party with your child's beloved character over Outschool upon request.
I have a huge passion for performing on stage and have been in many community theater productions, most recently as Adelaide in Guys & Dolls, Babette in Beauty & the Beast, Jack's Mother in Into the Woods, and Meg March in Little Women.
I try to use my performing experience to keep kids engaged in the topics they're learning!
MY TEACHING PHILOSPHY
I believe a teacher should act as a guide; nurturing the child's inner gifts and shaping their character. Students learn best when they feel safe. My goal is to create an inclusive and inviting learning environment that is welcoming, builds confidence and develops critical thinking skills. By finding interactive and engaging tools, I try to create lessons that inspire students to want to be life-long learners. Curriculum is important, but I believe building character is equally as important.
FUN FACTS
-I LOVE dogs (and all animals). I volunteer at a local humane society, where I got my rescue dog! If your child has a pet - I always love the pet introductions too! :)
-I have traveled to 9 countries in Europe and South America- having gone on 3 international mission trips. I believe the best way to learn about our amazing world is to experience it!
-My favorite activity is hiking; whether it's state parks or the rainforest!
-I have been in 3 commercials
-I am a big Disney fan :)
As a new member in the Outschool community, reviews are important to you. I also teach classes through the Sudbrink Performance Academy on Outschool - feel free to check out their page and see some of the reviews of classes I have taught. Furthermore, if you could leave a review after a class - that would help me greatly! I appreciate any and all feedback, as I want to do my best to reach each learner's needs!
