Class Experience
In this one-time class, you will learn about the basic needs, behaviors and personalities of different types of birds. You will also get to watch my own birds and see how they live and play. This is a great opportunity for your child to develop an appreciation and respect for these amazing animals. This is a fun and educational class for kids who love birds. Your child will learn how to keep a bird happy and healthy at home. We will cover topics like what to feed your bird, how to clean the cage, what kind of toys to provide, and how much time to let your bird fly around. I have a lot of experience with pet birds and I want to share my knowledge with you. Join me and discover the joy of having a feathered friend. As their teacher, I want them to feel comfortable and curious in this class. That's why I welcome any questions they may have about the topics we cover. They don't have to ask questions if they don't want to, but I hope they will take advantage of this opportunity to learn from me and from each other. At the end of our lesson, we'll have a special treat: you can show us your furry, scaly, or feathery friends from home! We'll also have fun with a game where we'll pretend to shop for our pet bird. This will help us remember what a bird needs to be happy and healthy. "If my posted time frame does not work for you, please message me and I will do my best to offer a time that best fits your schedule."
Learning Goals
Students will gain pet ownership experience, learning responsibility, time management, and organization skills.

Learning Needs
I have experience working with Neurodiverse families and make an effort to minimize distractions in my class, (besides the occasional noise of a dog barking and birds chirping) such as using captions when requested and presenting slides.
Supply List
This class does not require any materials. However, you may want to have a paper and pencil handy to take some notes.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Sources
During our class, my pet birds or dog may create loud noises that could be disruptive for some learners. I kindly request you to make appropriate arrangements for your child or prepare them in advance. Additionally, we will have a discussion on the importance of cleaning up after our pets. During this conversation, I may use terms like droppings, poop, pee, or relieve themselves to explain the cleaning process. We will briefly discuss pet loss. We might also talk about bird eggs and show one of my birds' eggs in class.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi everyone,
My name is Mrs. Rivera and I am passionate about teaching children. As a former instructional assistant, I have taught kindergarten students basic reading, writing, math, and other skills. However, due to the pandemic, I decided to explore other ways of teaching kids in a safe environment. It was then that I discovered my love for teaching about pet care.
I am a proud pet owner and I believe that it's crucial for children to learn about the responsibility of taking care of a pet. Pets are not just animals that we keep in our homes, they are a part of our family. They need to be fed, given water, regular walks, baths, and playtime. They also crave our attention and affection.
Throughout my life, I have owned a variety of pets including cats, dogs, birds, hamsters, fish, guinea pigs, and bunnies. I have learned a lot from these experiences and I hope to share my knowledge with others. By teaching kids about pet care, I hope to raise awareness about the importance of treating pets with love and care.
