FALL 2024 - Enrollments are Now Open!

👋 Are you ready for sixth grade math? 👋

Welcome students near & far! In our 15-week Fall semester fun & engaging sixth-grade class, students will be introduced to a multitude of math curriculum! Whether your student is entering into the sixth grade or has completed the grade and needs a refresher on various mathematical concepts - this class is perfect!

Our class provides students with an immersive experience, as we use multiple learning differentiations to ensure all abilities are met! Math should be embraced by students and teachers with excitement, versus anxiety and fear. Our class brings forth the joy of what math can be through the use of various techniques. Remember, not every child learns in the same manner! Whether your student is homeschooled or attends traditional school, what makes our class different is the use of online platforms. We utilize technological advances in two forms: Nearpod and Kahoot.

❓What is Nearpod and Kahoot?❓

Nearpod is a website in which the teacher will utilize for our mini lesson of the day! Not only is Nearpod used for a means of teaching our lesson, but students have the ability to use it for practicing the learned material. Nearpod is a free website that can be used on with the mobile app or computer! All students will need is to enter the PIN code provided by the teacher each day we meet. :)

As for Kahoot; it is another free website that students will use as a fun way to play brief rounds of their learned math skills (specifically geared towards what concept was taught that day). Think of Kahoot as extra practice but with peers! Similar to Nearpod, students will be given a Kahoot PIN code provided during our class! Some days we’ll have extra time to play a round, whereas other days we may not. It will really depend upon the math concept for the day!

Our Class Experience

Each meeting, the teacher will cover the math concept for that day through a 'mini lesson' for students to follow along. All lessons covered will be presented on Nearpod, in which students will be given a link with a pin code. If for any reason a student cannot utilize Nearpod, have no fear, students are able to use the pencil/paper or whiteboard/marker method! I use the word "presentation" loosely as Nearpod is a more gamified way for students to interact within the lesson. Providing students with a gamified experience enhances their engagement and interaction!

Outside of each live meeting, at the start of each week, students will be given the outline of which math concepts will be taught; along with worksheets to complete. Of course, students will complete said worksheets outside of class time to enhance the concepts learned for that specific day!

Method of Teaching & Learning Abilities

Beyond the use of technology, the teaching style I have is student centered, this way instruction will be based on how well the students are taking in the information. My goal is to guide students, and to ensure they feel comfortable on their journey of learning mathematical concepts! As their teacher, I am able to reach all learning types: Visual, Auditory, Read/Write, and Kinaesthetic.

After each class, there will be a posted homework assignment to our classroom board for students to complete prior to the next meeting. The homework assignment simply seals in the information learned, providing students with additional practice before advancing to the next concept. Prior to moving onto the next topic area for our math concepts, students will participate in pop-up quizzes to ensure students are on track and gaps are closed.

The class schedule will resemble the following:

The outline for our two weekly meetings are as follows:

First meeting of the week: We will have our live class (45 minutes). The teacher will go over the lesson for that day, then open the class for questions in case further understanding is needed. The teacher will give students plenty of practice questions to increase their level of understanding & repetition. Depending upon time left in the class, students will participate in a Kahoot related to our lesson. Prior to exiting class, the teacher will have students complete an 'Exit Ticket' that will help gauge their comprehension of the days lesson.

In between the two meetings: Students will be given homework to work after class (if students have questions please write them down or send Teacher Jessica a message for further assistance). Students will need to be prepared prior to class to go over answers promptly!

Second meeting of the week: We will have our live class (45 minutes). The teacher and students will go over our homework since our last meeting. The teacher will go over the lesson for that day, then open the class for questions in case further understanding is needed. The teacher will give students plenty of practice questions to increase their level of understanding & repetition. Depending upon time left in the class, students will participate in a Kahoot related to our lesson. There will be homework given that will need to be completed prior to the next week.

Learning Goals

Students will improve their understanding of mathematical concepts such as: apply addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division to real life situations; and understand when to use different forms of mathematics.

Welcome! My name is Jessica (Teacher Jessica). I have my Master's in Elementary Education (multiple subjects)! I have taught in the 6th grade classroom, and as of the last four years I have been teaching here on Outschool!

My teaching experience has given me the knowledge and tools necessary to ensure all students can thrive inside and outside of the classroom. Being an elementary school teacher, I enjoy and have fun teaching in all areas; as you may notice with my class listings I enjoy doing a little bit of everything!

I love to enhance learning development, and to watch each student grow individually. I look forward to meeting your child!

Aside from work life, I have a husband and three little ones! Outside of teaching, we love to be outside in nature, reading is life, and family time is everything!
