US Grade 3 - 4
1:1 on personalized tutoring covering 3rd or 4th-grade common core math standards using a spiral review. NOTE *Please message me once you enroll to let me know how I can prepare for our first session- options below!* 1.) Specific goal: You can let me know which topics or skills your child needs more support with prior to our session and I will create lessons to focus on these as a starting point. (Please provide this information 24 hours in advance.) 2.) Pre-assessment: I can start with a pre-assessment at our first meeting to determine which skills your child may need. 3.) Review of all Skills: I can start with place value skills and work through grade-level topics in order to review all skills. 4.) Homework help-I can do a session to help with any homework they may have that day. 5.) Fact Fluency- Many times skills at these grade levels can be a struggle if students aren't fluent in their multiplication facts. If these are a struggle we can make this a focus and work through a progression to master these first. Intro to class: *We will start the first couple minutes of class with a couple get- to-you- know questions to make students feel comfortable and so I can get to know them! *We will then do a quick check of the skill we will be working on so I can understand your child's prior knowledge. Learning We will spend time learning about our main topic of focus using the I do, we do, you do approach. I like using visuals to illustrate and break down harder concepts. Spiral Review For ongoing sessions, we will do a spiral review at the end of class to review any prior topics we have learned together to continually work on these skills. If the student has really grasped the concept for that day's lesson and we completed the spiral review we will do a "flash forward" question. This will be a challeng question to either extend a skill or preview a topic we will be learning soon. Please have your child bring a whiteboard/marker or something to write with so I can see their math thinking. The more I get to know your student the more I am able to adapt it to meet their specific needs! With ongoing sessions, this format may change depending on the skills your child may need. For example, if we need to work on math facts I would use a different lesson structure. Or if we need to change up our learning a bit we may add in a fun math game, etc.
