Beginner Level
This one-on-one course is designed to guide young authors through the steps of writing a novel. The structure of the course varies depending on the learner, but there are 4 basic areas that will be covered: 1: Planning - taking our idea for a novel and developing it into a cohesive plan that will turn into a novel. Plotting, researching, etc. 2: Writing - each week, the learner will focus on writing a rough draft. They will either write on their own and discuss in class with some writing in class, or we will write together in class (or both) depending on the learner's needs. 3: Editing - once the rough draft is finished, we will go through it and work on editing. Again, the learner may do some editing on their own outside of class or do the bulk of it in class, depending on their needs. 4: Publishing - once we have a completed novel, we will discuss the various publishing options and all the steps involved in that process. As this is an ongoing class, the learner can choose to participate in all or only some of the topics covered. The class moves in order of the topics listed above, so your writer may only choose to do the planning stage and not move on to writing in class, or they may choose all the way to publishing. It varies by young author and is entirely up to the learner and their parent. The length of each area will also vary dependent on the learner. As a result, there is no set or defined schedule for each area of the Young Author class. I encourage open and regular communication to ensure that the progress of the class is aligning with learner and parent goals.

Other Details
Learning Needs
This is a one-on-one class, so I am able to structure learning to meet the needs of the learner. I am open to receiving any information you have to support your learner. I will also talk to your learner about what they feel they need.
Parental Guidance
Students are creating their own novel from their own ideas. This may require personal research to support world building or character creation, which will require use of the internet.
Supply List
Students may find it helpful to have a notebook dedicated to writing so they can keep track of notes and planning. If students are writing a Fantasy Novel, I will provide a PDF for planning that they can print out and use.
