This flex schedule class "meets" once a week, which means there will be a new topic posted on Sundays which will be due by the following Saturday for seven weeks. It is meant to provide students with an overview of each of the main religions in the order in which they were founded (Hinduism, Judaism, Buddhism, Christianity, and Islam). Week 1Lesson 1Overview & Introduction to World ReligionsWelcome to the course! This week is an overview of the major religions, as well as an introduction as to why religions exist and what they all have in common.Week 2Lesson 2HinduismLesson #2 dives deeper into Hinduism, which is the oldest of the faiths still practiced today and it’s origins are a mystery. There are over a billion Hindus in the world today!Week 3Lesson 3JudaismLesson #3 dives deeper into the beliefs and practices of Judaism, which is the second oldest faith and the “parent” religion to Islam and Christianity.Week 4Lesson 4BuddhismLesson #4 takes a look at Buddhism, created by a Hindu prince, looking for meaning in, and answers about life. Find out more about him the faith he started while seeking enlightenment.Week 5Lesson 5ChristianityLesson #5 delves into Christianity. Christianity was created by a Jewish carpenter who was also the Son of God.Week 6Lesson 6IslamLesson #6 takes a deeper dive into Islam, which was founded by a merchant in Mecca who was visited by an angel named Gabriel.Week 7Lesson 7There are so many more!Review the religions we've studied and choose another one to research further.
Students will learn the basic history, beliefs, and practices of Hinduism, Judaism, Buddhism, Christianity, and Islam. Students will identity similarities in the five major religions. Students will identify the differences in the five major religions. Students will show tolerance and understanding for people who believe in different ways.
I have been teaching about the different religions in the world since 2005, as part of World Cultural Geography. I still continue to teach about them in brick and mortar World History classes. It is a topic that I have deep knowledge of and a great deal of experience with.

Parents are encouraged to support the ideas of freedom and tolerance of different religious beliefs. Any stereotypes that are expressed by other students will be addressed accordingly.
Students will watch "The Five Major World Religions" - a Ted-Ed video on YouTube Occasional references will be made or excerpts read during video lessons from each of the holy books of each religions (Upanishads, The Torah, The Tripitaka, The Bible, and The Qur'an.
