什麼是獨立紀念日？

1. Students will be asked, "Which country do we live in?". Next students will be informed that we live in the United States of America. The 4th of July is the day that America became independent. Sometimes, we also call it Independence day. 
Independence means that you are in control and make your own rules. 

2. Students will be given the definition for "independent". Who is independent? Remember…independent means that you are in control. When you are independent, you make your own rules. If you are independent, you do not have someone to help take care of you or help you do things. I will ask students "Are kids independent? Why?  (5-6 minutes)

3. The teacher will show pictures of pets and adults separetly and ask if each one is independent. Students will be informed of that the United States was once controlled by a country, called England. Thomas Jefferson wrote a document called the Declaration of Independence, which stated why the USA wanted to be independent!(5-6 minutes)

4. The declaration said that we believe “all men are created equal”. Students will be asked what they think that means. Students will be informed that equal means the same and will be shown a picture of a bald equal sign and another bald eagle.  Students wil be informed that “all men are created equal” this means that all people should be treated the same! (5-6 minutes)

5. People like to celebrate the 4th of July by watching fireworks. Fireworks are like small rockets. People watch the sky at night as the fireworks make pretty colors and patterns.  Sometimes fireworks are LOUD! They might make a boom or a whistling sound. Another thing that people like to do on the 4th of July, is to have a picnic! A picnic is when you eat outside. You might eat on a blanket on the ground or at a picnic table.(5-6 minutes)

6. Students will play a game of jeopardy that tests their knowledge on Independence Day.  (5-6 minutes)
