SKILL LEVEL:
This program is meant for Basic level players. This program requires Moderate reading comprehension, Basic proficiency with computers, and no prior experience with Minecraft.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW:
Similar to aliens and zombies, they are foreign matters that invade our comfort zones and although they lack an actual mind of their own, they imitate our DNA. Surprisingly, we’re not talking about fantasy or fiction… in fact, we’re describing viruses! Like all Connected Camps programs, this class offers a project-based, exploratory classroom environment that sits at the intersection of learning and playing. After all, kids learn the most when they're having fun!

In this class, we’ll submerge you into the world of viruses as you probe and analyze the way they’re transmitted, replicated, and how they differ from single-cell organisms.

Over the course of 5 sessions, you will:

- Learn how to differentiate DNA from RNA and explore the scale of viruses, cells, and living beings.
- Discover the inner workings of a virus and the method they use to replicate and travel through living organisms.
- Use Minecraft models and simulations like real-life virologists to track and predict future outbreaks.
- Gain an understanding of how viruses spread and how we can prevent ourselves from getting infected.

Virology is a subset of biology, and through our examination of viruses, you’ll gain a better understanding of how to navigate a real-life outbreak. We’ll set the stage in Minecraft where you will explore each new lesson with interactive simulations and group discussions. What you take from this course will not only give you the backstory to modern day zombie films and games but also help you to better prepare for viral infections!

PARENTS: 
In this course, students will participate in group discussions and virtual simulations that will help them understand the impact of viruses on living organisms. Virology is an excellent, sophisticated introduction for children who are interested in how microbiology can apply to everyday life. In giving students a visual, interactive study of virology through Minecraft, we hope to also teach small measures everyone can take to prevent viral infections.  

This is a 5-session course that balances discussion time with plenty of hands-on experience so students can cement what they’re learning and explore the topics they're interested in. We combine Minecraft with education so your child can engage their passions as they learn in a positive, interest-driven environment. Please note that we will be asking for your camper's in-game username so that we can add them to our server's safelist.
