We will read about and discuss the Winter Solstice and use context clues to learn new vocabulary (Learners will be asked to read). This is a discussion-based class that relies on participation and enthusiasm. The following topics will be explored: What is the Winter Solstice? The Science of the Solstice Earth's Tilt and Orbit The Sun's Path in the Sky Ancient Celebrations (Stonehenge, Saturnalia) Modern Celebrations (St. Lucia's Day, Yalda Night) Why It Matters Fun Activities to Celebrate the Solstice
