The One and Only Ivan is a Newbery-Award-winning novel about a silverback gorilla and a baby elephant who become friends together in captivity. Ivan spent decades (27 years) in an enclosure in a shopping mall before being moved to the Atlanta Zoo. The story is told from Ivan's perspective. It's based on a true events. The story is told from Ivan's perspective. It's based on a true events. There are sad moments throughout the book, and Ivan's journey is difficult at times. We will discuss animal rights, welfare, and well-being, especially while in captivity, and covering the impact of human decisions on the animals in our care. I think these are important topics for children to be aware of. The book discusses evolution, animal cruelty, and other sensitive topics.
