In this 2-week course we will study plot and character development using the novel Kiki's Delivery Service by Eiko Kadono, which inspired the Studio Ghibili movie by the same name. This course is geared toward strong readers who enjoy reading. Students will complete the reading assignments outside of the class, though we will read segments together during our discussions. In addition to reading assignments for homework, there are brief writing assignments and a creative final project....
Students will be able to: ~identity the seven plot elements ~identify and discuss the various elements of character development ~identify tone and mood ~make predictions ~identify simile, metaphor, and personification in the text ~identify conflicts various characters experience ~write brief summaries of specific passages of the text ~compare and contrast characters in the text
I am certified to teach K-6, 9-12 and have 23 years of teaching experience.
