課堂經歷
In this ongoing course students will test their slime making skills by making a new type of slime each week. While slime is often seen as a STEM activity, I find that activities like creating slime teaches creativity, problem solving skills, and resilience when things don't go as planned more often than basic science concepts. While most of the time slime works by following the recipe, sometimes its difficult to get slime just right. I like to use these opportunities to get learners to put on their thinking caps, to tinker with their creation, and to try things outside the box. If our slime doesn't come out the way we planned, that's ok! What can we do with what we have, and what might we do next time? Most importantly, slime is fun! As a teacher, I always try to be as encouraging as possible while kids create. What I love most about these kinds of classes is that there is more than one way to get a great result, and I love watching learner's work through it on their own. It's also a great opportunity for us all to chat and get to know each other. This is as much a slime lab as it is a social club, where kids who love to work with their hands can come together to make a (small) mess! As a teacher it is my goal to provide a safe and engaging environment for your learner. This is an ongoing course, meaning students can join at any time. The classes do not build upon each other, each week is a new type of slime. Many of our materials are similar week to week, however. See the weekly agenda below: Week One (week of 9/13) : Glitter Slime Week Two (week of 9/20) : Fluffy Unicorn Slime Week Three (week of 9/27): Play Dough Slime Week Four (week of 10/4): Ocean Slime Week Five (week of 10/11) : Bubble Slime Week Six (week of 10/18): Galaxy Slime Week 7 (week of 10/25): Pumpkin Guts Slime Week 8 (week of 11/1): Edible Slime Week 9 (week of 11/8): Erupting Dinosaur Extinction Slime Week 10 (week of 11/15): Cranberry Slime (non-edible) Please see the supply list for a list of supplies needed per week!

Hi! My name is Lydia, and I love to experiment and make a mess! This translates into a lot of the classes I offer, like STEAM storytime and Messy Science. I also love a good book, which means I also offer themed Preschool Storytime, Middle Grade level book clubs, and reading practice classes. I especially enjoy Middle Grade mystery books, so keep an eye out for classes for your learners who love a good whodunit.
I have been a Children's Librarian in a public library for over 5 years and have my Master's degree in Library and Information Science. At work, I focus strongly on combining the benefits of STEAM programming with a love of reading.
I believe that a love of reading is an invaluable tool for children of all ages. It can take them to new worlds, open their minds to new experiences and places, or teach them something new. STEAM programming is the perfect compliment to reading. STEAM programming promotes curiosity, encourages problem solving, and allows learners to exercise critical thinking. Trying something new is one of my favorite things; whether it's reading a new book I wasn't sure I would like or trying a new experiment (even if I fail miserably!). I want to share my love of learning with your learners, and hopefully they'll want to try something new too!
In my spare time I love to spend time with my husband and daughter, who is 18 months old. I also like to read, spend time in my garden, and bake. I am a huge holiday fan, especially Halloween! There's nothing like a good jack-o-lantern and a lot of candy.
I hope to see you and your children in the classroom soon!
