Learners will travel back in time to discover the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Through hands-on activities and captivating stories, participants will gain a deep appreciation for the architectural brilliance, cultural significance, and historical context of these remarkable landmarks. This class does not meet live. Each week at 8 AM EST, I will post a video, an assignment/project, and a game in the classroom. A pre-recorded video will serve as your guide, transporting you through the narratives of history. Accompanying this, you will find an engaging assignment. And to add a touch of fun, a thought-provoking game awaits your participation. Week One: Great Pyramid of Giza -Unveiling the mysteries surrounding the Great Pyramid. -Exploration of its construction techniques and symbolism. -Hands-on activities: Building a mini pyramid and decoding hieroglyphics. Week Two: Hanging Gardens of Babylon -Unraveling the secrets of the Hanging Gardens. -Understanding their significance and historical context. -Artistic project: Designing and constructing a vertical garden. Week Three: Statue of Zeus at Olympia -Exploring the grandeur of the Statue of Zeus. -Insights into ancient Greek mythology and religious beliefs. -Sculpting workshop: Creating clay models of mythical gods. Week Four: Temple of Artemis at Ephesus -Discovering the once magnificent Temple of Artemis. -Analysis of its architectural features and ancient worship practices. -Virtual tour: Exploring the ruins and restoration efforts. Week Five: Mausoleum at Halicarnassus -Studying the impressive Mausoleum's architecture and significance. -Examining ancient funeral customs and commemorative structures. -Creative project: Designing a memorial for a historical figure. Week Six: Colossus of Rhodes -Uncovering the history of the Colossus and its strategic role. -Understanding the craftsmanship and engineering behind colossal statues. -Construction challenge: Building a bridge that withstands weight. Week Seven: Lighthouse of Alexandria -Learning about the monumental Lighthouse and its navigational function. -Exploring the wonders of ancient maritime technology. -Navigation game: Charting a course. In this class, we embrace the richness and diversity of history by placing great emphasis on exploring multiple viewpoints through primary and secondary sources.
