In this class students will meet to discuss the book Rosie Revere and the Raucous Riveters. This book will be read and discussed during the first three meetings. Students will investigate the engineering ideas that Rosie tries during her book, and use a design cycle to try to solve problems that Rosie had and other problems given by the teacher. Students will work on both reading comprehension, asking and answering questions about a text. They will learn to use a text to find answers, and learn new vocabulary words. In addition students will develop a simple sketch or drawling or physical model to illustrate the shape of an object and how that object helps to solve a problem. They will design a product used to solve a problem and identify ways that it could be improved through testing and reflecting. They will evaluate how well their invention may or may not work to solve a problem.

The homework from this class will take about an hour a day but it may take longer depending on students reading pace and how in-depth they go with their design projects. Students will be doing reading and designing outside of class. These activities can e done individually however if two family members are in the class these projects may be worked on together.1 - 2 每週課外時間
