• Students will learn a step-by-step procedure to use to effectively proofread any writing assignment in any class. • The class will include a discussion of common proofreading methods and how they may not be specific or accurate. I will also explain my procedure, and then we will practice it on a sample document. Students will also receive a proofreading handout they can copy and customize when using this procedure. • The class will begin with a discussion of common proofreading methods, an explanation of this new procedure, and practice using it on a sample document. • My teaching style is to give students usable, practical methods and tools they will see as valuable and helpful. I encourage questions and comments throughout my lessons, while also staying focused on the material. I also include details from my own experiences using the methods I teach. I developed this method when I was in the United States Air Force and the editor and supervisor of a newspaper staff of young writers. When I saw they were making too many mistakes, we talked about how they were rushing to proofread their articles without having a clear idea of how to do it.
