Students will be introduced to probability through exploration. Each week we will use different manipulatives from everyday life to learn about probability. Students will learn to express probability using fractions, percentages, ratios, and graphs. Each week we will use a different type of graph to represent what we have learned. During class, each student will participate by flipping a coin, rolling the dice, etc. Before they begin, they will hypothesize about the results they expect. After completing the task, each student will share their results with the class. We will compile the results and make comparisons between the results of each individual and the results of the whole class. We will then look at the mathematical probability of each event and discuss how it compares to the results we found. After class, students will have the option of completing a worksheet to apply what they have learned. They can also upload the graphs they have made to share with the class. Here is a list of the manipulative we will explore: Day 1: Flipping coins Day 2: Rolling dice Day 3: Random choice from a bag (we use candy) Day 4: Deck of cards

I have a BS in Mathematics Education and a MS in Educational Technology and Online Learning. I have six years experience teaching math online. Many students have the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in mathematics, but they need help recognizing when to use each skill. My goal is to give students strategies to help them identify the type of skill they need to successfully complete unique problems.
