Conventions of writing allow writers to specify the exact way a word or phrase should be interpreted by the reader. They help the reader understand exactly what the writer had in mind. When you can't be there to read your writing to someone else, conventions can help do the reading for you. Students study authentic texts and come to recognize these “patterns of power”—the essential grammar conventions that readers and writers require to make meaning. I have 26 years of teaching experience and two master’s degrees plus 30. I am certified in elementary education, early childhood education, special education, learning disabilities and Primary Montessori.
